Sioux Lookout, Ontario
Family-run outfitter on Abram Lake near Sioux Lookout, operating a main island camp and eight fly-in or boat-in outpost camps.
Winoga Lodge is a fishing and hunting outfitter based in Northwestern Ontario, with its main camp situated on Winoga Island on Abram Lake, five miles outside of Sioux Lookout. The operation provides access to several Canadian Shield lakes including Abram, Pelican, Minnitaki, Botsford, and the well-known Lac Seul. In addition to the main camp, Winoga operates eight outpost camps — five accessible by float plane and three by boat.
The lodge traces its origins to the mid-1920s, when the first cabins were built on Winoga Island. The Mansfield family purchased the property in 1970 and has been running fishing and hunting operations ever since. Dick Mansfield and his son Troy currently operate the lodge and outposts together, representing three generations of family ownership.
Established: 1925
Anglers at Winoga can target walleye, northern pike, lake trout, smallmouth bass, and muskie on a connected system of Precambrian Shield lakes. From the main camp on Winoga Island, guests fish Abram, Pelican, Minnitaki, and Botsford lakes directly from the dock, with access to Lac Seul a short trailer ride away. Winoga also offers a guided Lac Seul barge trip, which includes a guide, gas, bait, shore lunch, and fish cleaning. Outpost camp guests fish more remote waters, with fly-in options providing access to lakes that see comparatively little pressure. Guided fishing trips are available, and boats can be rented on-site. Ice fishing packages are also offered in winter, guided by the Mansfield family on area lakes including Minnitaki.
The main camp on Winoga Island features housekeeping cabins, some of which are cedar log structures with full kitchens, all bedding, cooking utensils, baseboard heating, and wood stoves. Modern cabins include full bathrooms with hot and cold running water, while semi-modern cabins have access to central shower houses and a beach sauna. The main camp operates on a housekeeping (self-catered) basis, with guests bringing their own food. Fly-in outpost cabins, such as those at Raggedwood Lake, are equipped with full kitchens, bathrooms, and sleeping space for up to ten guests, powered by solar panels and a generator.
