Summarized Review Highlights

Webber's Lodges, specifically North Knife Lake Lodge in Manitoba, earns overwhelmingly positive reviews across the board. Nearly every reviewer awards the maximum rating, and many are repeat guests — some returning annually for decades. The lodge has built a strong reputation as one of Canada's premier remote fishing destinations, consistently praised for combining genuine wilderness remoteness with an unusually high level of comfort and hospitality. The Webber family and their staff are frequently singled out by name, with guests describing the atmosphere as warm, personal, and genuinely attentive rather than simply transactional. The fact that multiple reviewers mention returning for a second, third, or even twentieth visit is perhaps the strongest indicator of guest satisfaction.

Guests consistently highlight four things: the fishing, the food, the lodge facilities, and the staff. Northern pike fishing in particular draws superlatives, with guests routinely reporting catches of 100 or more fish per day per boat and multiple Master Angler-sized pike exceeding 40 inches. Lake trout, brook trout, and arctic grayling also receive mention. Shore lunches are described in detail and treated as a genuine highlight, not an afterthought. The lodge food — prepared by chefs connected to the Webber family, including cookbook author Helen Webber — is described repeatedly as gourmet-level, with guests citing prime rib, eggs benedict, homemade cinnamon rolls, fresh breads, and locally-inspired wild game dishes. Amenities like a hot tub, fieldstone fireplace, private rooms, and sweeping lake views round out a lodging experience that guests consistently call surprising given the remote fly-in location. Guides are described as knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating to different skill levels, including fly anglers and first-time visitors.

Across all the reviews provided, there are no recurring complaints or notable criticisms — every reviewer rated the experience at the highest level, and no one raised concerns about value, logistics, weather management, or service gaps. The absence of negative feedback may reflect a self-selected review pool, so prospective guests should be aware that this is a premium, fly-in lodge at a corresponding price point, and that weather and remote-location factors (such as the high cost of flown-in supplies) are part of the experience rather than hidden drawbacks. Based on the reviews, this destination is best suited for serious trophy pike and lake trout anglers, couples looking for a wilderness retreat that does not sacrifice comfort, father-son or multi-generational fishing groups, corporate or business travel where reliable quality matters, and experienced anglers who want a high-catch-volume fishery. It also appears welcoming to beginners and younger guests, with one 13-year-old reviewer noting three Master Angler catches on a first trip.

Father-son tradition continues at North Knife Lake Lodge
"The last time I was at North Knife with my son he caught six Master Angler Lake Trout on a nine-inch Canadian Wiggler. And this time the boys thoroughly enjoyed the trip, the camaraderie, and the food. No matter what the chef prepared it was delicious. It was great experience. Everything was terrific." Gadomski had already fished in Alaska, Florida and Costa Rica, and had fished at Wollaston Lake in Saskatchewan, as well as God's Lake, Big Sand Lake and North Knife Lake in Manitoba with his father and son. The fact that Gadomski decided to return to North Knife Lake for a third time spoke volumes for the North Knife Lake fishery and the Lodge, considering that he had once owned a fishing lodge and had fished in some of the world's most spectacular places.

Couples fishing trip of a lifetime at North Knife Lake
After 23 years of marriage, I thought a back-to-nature style vacation (and a chance to catch some trophy northern pike and arctic grayling) would do us some good – give us a chance to reconnect. We flew to Thompson from Winnipeg on Sunday, stayed at the Days Inn overnight and flew out the next morning in a well-appointed Beaver floatplane piloted by Lodge co-owner Nelson Morberg. The flight was perfect. No turbulence, a great view of the wilderness below and a very smooth landing on North Knife Lake. We were immediately welcomed by Webber's Lodges staff, who carried our gear up to the main lodge. Once in the lodge, we were greeted by award-winning cookbook author Helen Webber, Chef Dave Schellenberg and more polite staff members. We were also treated to a feast of waffles, bacon, homemade bread and jam. On my fourth cast I caught a trophy northern pike – a 43-inch Master Angler that probably weighed in around 25 pounds! I'd already caught my fish of a lifetime and I'd only been on the lake 10 minutes! Cocktail hour is a special time of day at North Knife Lake Lodge, when all the guests get together for specially-created drinks and appetizers and a chance to tell their big fish and adventure stories from the day. Dinner time at the lodge was always a wonderful experience. The chefs prepared fresh breads, salads and delicious entrees every day, many of them from the Webber's Lodges series of award-winning wild game cookbooks. There was also a different delectable dessert at every meal. All the dishes made from scratch using natural ingredients and the preparation was always superb.

20 years of corporate fishing retreats at North Knife Lake
This trip gives us an opportunity to get away from technology, to get away from work. It's a very stress-free environment at North Knife Lake. You really get to let your hair down, so to speak. I think that's why we like it so much there. The fishing obviously lends itself to us wanting to come back every year. We've got good fishing around Buffalo and we have a place in Parry Sound on Georgian Bay where we fish for northern pike, but the big difference between fishing here and fishing at North Knife Lake is the natural environment, the outdoors. And we can catch between 150-200 fish per day. Sometimes they'll strike as soon as the lure hits the water. Other times we'll be reeling in a smaller fish and a big pike will grab it. We use barbless hooks and the guides are very careful with the fish. It's all catch and release. The shore lunches are phenomenal. Every day is different. My favourite is still the fried fish fresh from the lake, with home-fried potatoes and corn and beans out of the can.

The very best..................
I'm a corporate pilot, and my passengers often ask "Where can we fly to for reliably good fishing--a place where we can talk with our customers--a place where we can be ASSURED that our customers have the very best time? There is only one place I recommend--North Knife Lake! I've been to a lot of hunting and fishing lodges in Canada over the years--most are OK for fishing--but often leave something to be desired on the amenities side. Not so here! The entire lodge was flown in on multiple trips with a DC-3 landing on the ice--the equipment is good--the everything is neat and clean--and the FOOD--prime rib or wild meats--over a hundred miles from the nearest road! (It helps that Helen Webber is a best-selling cookbook author!) All this would be for naught if it weren't for the friendly and helpful attitude of the staff. The tone is set by Doug & Helen--and they make things happen! Doug takes the time to answer questions about living here in the North--and the logistics of running a remote lodge. (Example: gasoline costs up to $30 per gallon by the time it is flown in--so the Lodge has invested in solar and wind power--it works very well!) If you ever watched the TV show "Ice Pilots"--there was an episode about landing a DC-3 on a remote lodge runway--this is the place! Absolutely nothing stops these people from meeting the needs of guests. The fishing is reliably excellent--my first trip to the lodge was piloting a film crew for an outdoor fishing show. I've been back multiple times--and have never been disappointed. The Webbers also operate hunting camps for moose and caribou--and offer a unique goose hunting experience on Hudson Bay. A daughter and son-in-law operate Churchill Wild--the premier eco-tour facilities on the bay. Polar bears, Beluga whales, and other Arctic wildlife are featured--with experts providing commentary. As others have said here, it's the PEOPLE that make the difference here.

Great experience
I grew up in the north and was lucky enough to go here twice. It's 5 star in my opinion, a cold day on the lake moves to the outdoor hot tub to thaw out before dinner. The staff are some of the best and you can't beat the shore lunches or the meals they serve you at the lodge. Have you ever tried deer bacon? If your looking for a guy trip you'll be happy to know you can bring the wife and she'll be more than happy with the accommodations food and friendly people there. Sitting on the deck with a morning coffee watching the lake come to life every day. Not enough people ever get to experience a place like this and anyone who does is better off for being there. Hats off to Doug and the staff for making a place like this what it is. Thanks for everything.

Paradise Found
I was invited to go on a fishing trip for northern pike and lake trout back into the wilds of Manitoba, Canada by a business associate of mine this June, 2012. He described the North Knife Lake Lodge as a mix between 5-Star quality meals/accomodations and a trip back though time to the rustic wilderness where we would be surrounded by country that had not yet been introduced to 'civilization'. He was correct on both descriptions! The Lodge itself is spectacular and rustic, high post and beam ceilings, windows that provide you with a 360 degree view of the pristine lake and stunning forests, hot showers and private bedrooms with plenty of room to store your gear and relax after a day on the water battling 'monster' fish and if the spirit moves you, you can take a break and sit in their spacious hot tub right outside the main screened in porch. The meals can only be spoken of in superlatives as they are top shelf with a variety of local recipes, homemade desserts that are so tasty and your meals are made to order and not just set on the table to get cold when you come to the table - and you never walk away from the table hungry! I think the best thing about North Knife Lake Lodge is the people themselves that manage and run it. First off, their kindness, hospitality, genuineness and concern for their guests' well being is unparalleled and each morning you're greeted with homemade cinammon rolls, a hot cup of coffe/tea/chocolate by the roaring fire in the fieldstone fireplace. I haven't recieved this kind of service in my 56 years of travel, and it's something that makes this Lodge stand apart from all the others I've visited. YOUR comfort and needs are their top concern! Now on to the fishing and wildlife - it's not uncommon to take to the lake and see a few healthy beavers out by the dock, then don't close your eyes or you might miss the bald eagles, the moose (and her calf), maybe some black bear, wolf prints were seen by the landing strip (and I was told there was a litter of pups not too far from the main lodge), and if you go out a little bit further, you'll be greeted by caribou, some whales and maybe even a group of polar bears! Fishing? You bet, and it's first rate with trophy northern pikes (we caught over 100/day per boat) ranging from 20" - 40+", then the lake trout are just monstrous ranging in size from 19" - 42" the week we were there. The guides are all professionals and know the water and the 'hot holes' like the backs of their hands. They will suggest what lures to try, how deep to fish it, or how to attract trophy fish onto your line. They know exactly what they're doing and they share all of their local knowledge with you with a smile.

God's Country...Great hosts...Good Fishing
A world class experience...more than a lodge and fishing trip...the food was extraordinary...from eggs benedict and home made cinnamon rolls (sinful)...shore lunches from beer battered to sweet and sour just out of the water FRESH fish...to prime rib with yorkshire pudding...and bottomless wine bottles...leave your diet at home!...the staff..a family affair led by Doug Webber and wife Helen, their daughter Jeannie and her husband Mike Reimer (Mr. Organization) and their daughters Carly and Allie anticipate rather than fulfill their guests needs...warm, friedly and fun...common areas and rooms clean and comfortable...great/experienced guides who know the lakes and put you on fish all day...and the fishing...awesome...Northern Pike and Lake trout over 40 inches every day and almost constant action...I can't wait to go back....m. mazzoni

I love NKL!
This trip was absolutely amazing! The food was great, the fishing was superb and the whole experience was totally unique! We were well taken care of, yet still had a feeling of freedom and wildness around us. Thanks to Webber's Lodges! We are already planning a trip next year to their hunting lodge! Thanks again!

Fabulous fishing and so much more.
I am about to embark on my third trip to Webber's Lodges at North Knife Lake. North Knife Lake is an unusual property in and of itself, but oh, the experience! First of all, fishing is fantastic with knowledgeable and eager guides and super results. I was an amateur on my first trip and came home with two master angler awards. Last year my guide hung by his feet on the gunwale of the boat while landing another whopper in the cradle for me. Shore lunches are excellent with the preparation a near ballet of coordinated activity that prepares a feast equal to one in a four star restaurant, in what just seems like a few minutes. Shore lunches vary by location each day. Yet with all this the real treat is the lodge. Breakfasts and Dinners are gourmet delights prepared by chefs who have best selling cookbooks to their credit. (available at the lodge or at Amazon) These chefs are part of the Webber Family and the food alone is worth the trip. The lodge is luxurious and causes one to muse how such a place can be so far from civilization, remember everything has to be flown in. I cannot express enough my delight with this group of family and carefully chosen professional hospitality providers. Call them ---- You won't be disappointed. If you're serious, beg them for a DVD. It will act as a brag piece to show the relatives where you have been.

103 Fish Before Lunch!
My wife and I just returned from 5 terrific days of fishing at North Knife Lake Lodge. I've been to many high-end fishing locations in the past 20 years, but webber's North Knife Lake Lodge is in a class by itself! Our trip was the first session in June and if the weather is right (sunny and calm), northern pike fishing can be fast and furious. Well, on one particular morning we caught and released and 103 pike ranging in size from 3-5 pounds in only 4 hours, all the way up to two 41" and 43" Master Angler Pike monsters! My 43" fish was caught on a fly rod! The guide staff has received orientation and fly casting instruction and are very good at working with fly anglers and they offer Brook Trout fishing as well. One aspect which places North Knife ahead of almost all other lodges in Canada is their lodge facilities and food service. This place should really be billed as a gourmet destination which offers trophy fishing! We couldn't have been more pleased with the staff, food, fishing and all the rest. North Knife Lake is more than a winner!

Big fish, zero stress, delicious meals
We had an amazing trip to Webber's Lodges. We felt more than welcome. The people were absolutely charming. We had such delicious meals and shore lunches. I must have gained five pounds that week! Stress was nowhere to be found during his time at the Lodge, which is definitely how it should be when you're on vacation.
