Overview

Andomoozwe Outfitters and Lodge is owned and operated by Patrick Cloutier and David Priest. The operation took over from the former O'Sullivan Lake Outfitters, which had been running for over 26 years. The two owners personally attend hunts and oversee all aspects of the operation.

The main lodge sits on the Kawashkagama River, about 30 miles northwest of Nakina, with a two-minute boat ride to O'Sullivan Lake. In addition to the main base, the outfitter operates three fly-in outpost camps on the Ogoki River, Abamasagi Lake, and Burness Lake. The operation offers both fishing and hunting packages, including black bear and moose hunting.

Best for: Anglers and hunters looking for a self-guided, housekeeping-style operation with the option of either a drive-to main lodge or remote fly-in outpost camps.
Best time: The operation runs fishing packages through the open-water season; bear hunting runs mid-May to mid-June in spring and mid-August to mid-September in fall.

The Fishing

The waters accessible through Andomoozwe Outfitters hold walleye, northern pike, lake trout, brook trout, and whitefish. The main lodge provides access to O'Sullivan Lake and surrounding lakes reachable by quad trails. The Ogoki River outpost, located four miles west of Ogoki Lake, produces northern pike and brook trout taken from the river's numerous rapids. Abamasagi Lake, 24 kilometres long, is known for its walleye fishing and also yields large northern pike and lake trout; the Kawashkagama River flows in and out of the lake, providing brook trout fishing in spring. Fishing at the outposts is self-guided, with boats and motors provided at each camp.

Anglers at the main lodge fish from 14- and 16-foot Naden aluminum boats with swivel cushion seats powered by 4-stroke 9.9 and 15 hp Mercury motors. Daily minnow allowances are included in fishing packages, and guests are expected to bring their own fishing licenses, purchased en route.

Accommodations

The main lodge has seven fully furnished housekeeping waterfront cabins with running water and propane heat, plus barbecues and fire pits. Cabins are supplied with propane for cooking, an electric refrigerator and lights, propane heating, all cooking utensils, and bedding; most have indoor showers and bathrooms, though towels and dish towels are not provided. An on-site office and store, boat launch, walk-in cooler, camping sites, and live bait are also available at the main base. At the Abamasagi outpost, two cabins sleeping ten or more persons are equipped with a generator, wood stove, propane refrigerator and stove, shower, barbecue grill, and fish fryer. The Ogoki River outpost is a six-bunk camp equipped with a generator, propane cook stove, refrigerator, wood stove, barbecue grill, and fish fryer. The owners note the cabins are more rustic in character and have been renovating and updating facilities since taking over the operation.

Summarized Review Highlights

Andomoozwe Outfitters, located north of Nakina, Ontario, carries a strong reputation built largely on the foundation of its predecessor, O'Sullivan Lake Outfitters, which operated for over 26 years before the current owners Patrick and Dave took over. Early reviews under the new ownership are positive, with guests describing the area as remote, secluded, and well-suited for both hunting and fishing. The staff — including Patrick, Dave, Cooper, and Josh — are consistently described as welcoming and helpful, and the outfitter appears to retain a loyal base of returning clients who come back year after year.

Guests praise the quality of fishing and hunting in the area. Walleye and pike fishing is described as plentiful, with even casual outings producing good numbers and respectable-sized fish. Bear hunting has also drawn positive feedback, with guests reporting successful harvests during spring hunts. The overall atmosphere is described as relaxed and social, with guests enjoying downtime together in the cabins. The owners themselves are upfront that the cabins are more rustic than high-end, and renovations and updates were underway at the time of the review, so accommodations may vary depending on when guests visit.

Based on available reviews, this destination appears best suited for bear hunters, walleye and pike anglers, and groups of friends looking for a remote, no-frills northern Ontario experience. It is likely a good fit for those who prioritize action on the water or in the field over luxury accommodations. First-time fly-in visitors should note that this is a drive-to camp, though its remoteness gives it a fly-in feel.

Combining Great Fishing and Hunting
This spring I was headed north of Nakina, Ontario, to hunt black bears with Andomoozwe Outfitters & Lodge. Owners Patrick and Dave recently purchased this outfit, formerly known as O'Sullivan Lake Outfitters, which had been running for over 26 years. This area of Ontario is known for a great black bear population, due to its remoteness and ideal habitat. This area has a secluded, private feel, more like a fly-in outfit rather than a drive-to camp. On this hunt, I was joined by a good friend, John Ward of Camillus Knives and DMT Sharpeners. We pulled into camp after a fourteen-hour drive from Southern Ontario and were greeted by Patrick and Dave, who showed us to our cabin. Patrick and Dave are the first people to tell you their cabins are more rustic than high-end, but as new owners with big plans, they are in the process of renovating and updating. Luckily their reputation for great hunting and especially fishing keeps a large list of returning clients, coming back year after year. The next morning, John and I jumped in a boat and made our way down the channel to get to the mouth of the lake. We had previously heard about the great walleye and pike fishing up here, so we were both excited to see for ourselves. Sure enough the rumors were true. John and I had a great morning fish, catching lots of walleye and pike and while we weren't targeting the big fish, we still caught some with pretty respectable size. Both John and I shot bears during the week, and had lots of meat coming back with us. We also had a great time fishing and shared a lot of laughs back in our cabin during our downtime. If you have been wanting to get out bear hunting, this area of Northern Ontario is a place you should check out. Thanks to the whole crew at Andomoozwe Outfitters & Lodge, Patrick, Dave, Cooper & Josh were a big help, and we recommend them to anyone looking for a great northern adventure.
