Red Lake, Ontario
Family-run outfitter operating fly-in fishing outposts north of Red Lake in northwestern Ontario, with roots going back to 1950.
Bob Green's Fishing Camps is a family-operated outfitter based in Red Lake, Ontario, continuing a tradition of fly-in fishing that traces its origins to Green Airways Ltd., founded in 1950 by the late G.H. Green. The operation honours the memory of Bob Green and has been run as a family business for over 50 years. Current contacts listed are Mary-Ann and Robbie Green.
The outfitter operates three distinct destinations: the Berens River Camp (also called the Mamakwash Lake main camp), the Pedlar Lake Outpost, and the Nungesser Lake Outpost. Each property sits on a different lake in the remote northwestern Ontario bush, and the species available vary by location. The Berens River Camp is the only camp on Mamakwash Lake and serves as the main, caretaker-staffed base, while Pedlar Lake and Nungesser Lake are smaller self-guided outpost cabins.
Established: 1950
Target species across the three properties include walleye, northern pike, and lake trout, though not every location holds all three species. The Berens River Camp on Mamakwash Lake offers approximately 13,065 acres of water and over 30 miles of navigable waterways, with direct access to the Berens River System and Upper Goose Lake, producing walleye and northern pike from weed bays, reefs, and islands. The Nungesser Lake Outpost sits on a large lake with over 20 miles of navigable water and is known for northern pike and walleye. Pedlar Lake is noted for walleye and northern pike and is the only cabin on the lake. Anglers fish from Lund 14- to 16-foot boats equipped with motors ranging from 9.9 to 20 hp depending on the camp. All trips are self-guided and self-catered; guests are responsible for their own cooking, tackle, and licences.
Each outpost is a self-catered log cabin equipped with hot and cold running water, a sink, fridge, stove, propane lights, BBQ, propane deep fryer, and cooking utensils, with free ice or propane freezers varying by camp. The Berens River Camp features five spacious log cabins, each with a three-piece bathroom, fully stocked kitchen, and access to a communal BBQ shack and industrial ice machine; a caretaker is on site. The Nungesser Lake Outpost is a 10-person cabin running on a solar system for lighting and water on demand, including hot and cold shower and flush toilet. The Pedlar Lake Outpost is a 6-person cabin with hot and cold running water and showers but uses an outhouse. All 7-day trips run on a Friday-to-Friday schedule. A grocery pre-order service for food and beverages is available for an additional cost, and Starlink satellite internet is available at Berens River Camp for a fee.
