Burntwood Lake Lodge is a fly-in only fishing and hunting operation located on Burntwood Lake in northern Manitoba, approximately 500 miles north of the Canada-US border and staged out of Snow Lake. The main lodge was built in 1995 and refurbished in 2006. It operates as a full-service American Plan facility and is a member of the Manitoba Lodges and Outfitters Association.
In addition to the main lodge, the operation runs three fly-in outpost camps on Niblock, Dow, and McGhee lakes, giving guests the choice between a guided, full-service stay at the main lodge or a self-guided experience at a remote outpost. The lodge is open May through September and caters to both anglers and hunters, with guided bull moose and black bear hunts also on offer.
Established: 1995
Burntwood Lake is known primarily for walleye and northern pike. The lake features over 1,000 miles of shoreline with weed beds, hidden reefs, rocky outcroppings, and back bays that provide good habitat for both species. Northern pike released at the lodge have measured up to 51 inches. The lodge requires all pike above 30 inches and walleye over 20 inches to be released, and catch-and-release only is practiced at all three outpost camps.
Anglers fish from 16-foot aluminum boats with 15 hp four-stroke motors fitted with carpeted floors and casting decks. Guided trips use boats with 25 hp motors. Guides are available on request. Shore lunches are a common part of the fishing day. In addition to walleye and pike, the lake also holds perch and whitefish.
The main lodge includes a dining room operating on a full American Plan, a licensed lounge, a meeting area, and a tackle and souvenir store. Guests stay in individual cabins separate from the main lodge; each cabin is equipped with a lounge area, dining table and chairs, a fridge, a full washroom, and beds. Linens, bath towels, and facecloths are provided. The lodge has high-speed internet and a phone system. Total guest capacity is reported at approximately 28 to 32 guests. Outpost camp cabins are equipped with solar-powered lighting, hot showers, a full kitchen with cookware, bedding and linens, a propane fridge, a wood-burning stove, a BBQ, and a fish fryer, along with boats, motors, and unlimited gas.
