Nestor Falls, Ontario
Owner-operated fly-in outfitter running eight remote outpost lakes in northwestern Ontario, accessible only by floatplane from Nestor Falls.
Canada Outfitters is an owner-operated fly-in fishing outfitter based on Crow Lake, just north of Nestor Falls, Ontario, in the heart of Ontario's Sunset Country. The operation has grown from a single outpost cabin and one aircraft to a fleet of four floatplanes and eight remote outpost lakes. The company also operates Crow Lake Outfitters, which adds two further fly-in lakes — Penassi and Loonhaunt — to the portfolio.
All outposts are accessible exclusively by floatplane. The airbase sits on Crow Lake approximately ten minutes north of the town of Nestor Falls, placing guests within roughly 45 minutes of their chosen outpost lake once airborne. The outfitter describes itself as committed to sustainable fishing practices, with a strong emphasis on catch-and-release to maintain healthy fisheries across its private lakes.
The eight outpost lakes under the Canada Outfitters and Crow Lake Outfitters brands target walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, lake trout, and muskie. Each outpost sits on its own private lake with limited or no outside fishing pressure. Named outposts include Brown Bear Lake (known for smallmouth bass averaging two to three pounds, with portage access to Midway and Beauty Lakes), Treelined Lake (northern pike), Unexpected Lake (part of the English River system, noted for muskie and walleye), Norse Lake (smallmouth bass), Populus Lake (walleye), Gordie Lake, Penassi Lake (lake trout and pike, with a portage to Picture Narrows Lake for walleye), and Loonhaunt Lake (walleye, pike, lake trout, and bass).
Fishing is self-guided from 14- or 16-foot Lund aluminum boats powered by Yamaha 4-stroke outboard motors. Unlimited fuel is included. Some outposts offer portage lakes, allowing anglers to reach additional water beyond the main outpost lake without flying out.
Outpost cabins are fully equipped housekeeping units ranging from two-bedroom layouts for small groups up to three-bedroom cabins that accommodate up to twelve guests. Standard amenities across the outposts include hot and cold running water, full bathrooms with hot showers, propane stoves and ovens, electric refrigerators and freezers, cooking utensils, bunk beds with mattresses and pillows, 110V AC power supplied by gas generators, screened-in porches with gas BBQs and propane deep fryers, and drinking water. Each package includes round-trip floatplane transport, boats and motors, unlimited fuel and propane, lake maps, landing nets, bait buckets, and life jackets. Meals are self-catered; guests bring their own groceries. A linen package and pre-purchased groceries can be arranged for guests flying in commercially.
