Overview

Canadian Fly-In Outposts is based out of Emo, Ontario, and operates fly-in outpost camps on six remote lakes in northwestern Ontario: Krooked, Entwine, Upper Frypan, Priam, Meggisi, and Off Lake. The five remote fly-in outposts are located northeast of Clearwater Lake, accessible only by float plane from the outfitter's airbase on Off Lake near Emo. Off Lake also has a drive-to cabin option for guests who prefer not to fly into the wilderness.

The operation offers housekeeping-style, self-guided fishing packages and also provides fall hunting for moose and deer. Guests can pre-order groceries, alcohol, and bait to have supplies waiting on arrival, and the outfitter can provide a full gear package for those who wish to simply show up and board the plane.

Best for: Groups seeking self-guided, housekeeping fly-in fishing with modern cabin amenities, including larger parties of up to 12.
Best time: The outfitter operates a spring-through-fall season, with walleye, pike, and bass fishing through summer and fall hunting seasons for moose and deer.

The Fishing

The outpost lakes support a variety of species including walleye, northern pike, lake trout, smallmouth bass, and muskie. Walleye at the outpost lakes typically run in the 2 to 4-pound class with trophy fish a possibility. Krooked Lake, part of the Trout River flowage, is 15 miles long with depths to 160 feet and holds smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, and lake trout across its humps, shelves, islands, and weed beds. Meggisi Lake is a large lake known for muskie in excess of 35 pounds, along with northern pike and trout. Fishing across the camps is self-guided, with guests using the boats and motors provided at each outpost.

Northern pike can be targeted on all five remote lakes — Krooked, Upper Frypan, Meggisi, Priam, and Entwine. The Entwine Lake outpost is located 50 miles northeast of the airbase and accommodates groups of up to 12, with anglers able to fish for walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and lake trout.

Accommodations

All outpost cabins are described as modern, clean, and finished with pine throughout. Amenities include indoor flush toilets, indoor showers, and backup generators, with some camps running on solar power with a gas stove and water heater. The Krooked Lake cabin has five bedrooms, two bathrooms with flush toilets, and accommodates up to 12 guests, and includes a pontoon boat. The Entwine Lake outpost has four bedrooms, accommodates up to 12 guests, and features air conditioning, Starlink WiFi, two bathrooms with flush toilets, a screened-in porch, and a pontoon boat. Motor sheds stocked with nets, minnow buckets, and life jackets are provided, and seasoned firewood is available at the camps. The outfitter can provide a full grocery package tailored to guests' dietary needs.

Summarized Review Highlights

Canadian Fly-In Outposts operates fly-in cabin packages on remote lakes including Krooked, Entwine, and Upper Frypan Lake, with guests flying out from Clearwater Lake via a separate flight service. The overall volume of available reviews is very limited, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions about the operation as a whole. That said, the feedback that does exist skews positive, particularly regarding cabin quality. One guest who visited for a moose hunt described the cabin as the nicest they had stayed in on any fly-in trip, noting solar power with a backup generator, a gas stove, a water heater, and a wood stove — along with strong scenic views.

Prospective guests should be aware of a few practical considerations that come up in the reviews. The fly-in service is handled separately from the outfitter itself, meaning guests have limited control over that portion of the trip. Costs beyond the base cabin rate — including fishing licenses, groceries, bait, and potentially fuel or float plane fees — are not bundled in, and at least one reviewer noted uncertainty about what additional expenses to expect. The outfitter has advertised a hosted option, but reviewers noted the starting bid for that option was the same as standard rates, offering no apparent discount.

Based on the available reviews, this destination appears best suited for self-sufficient outdoors people — hunters, anglers, or small groups — who are comfortable managing their own food and supplies in a remote setting and who prioritize cabin comfort and lake access over guided or all-inclusive service. Those who need more transparency around total trip costs or prefer a fully guided experience may want to ask detailed questions before booking.

Moose Hunt Sept 2018
Flew in sept 2018 for moose hunt, weather was challenging but took a nice bull 1/2 mile from cabin. Cabin is the nicest ive stayed in on a fly-in trip. All solar with back up generator with gas stove and water heater. Big woodstove for those chilly evenings. Plus a great view.

Has anyone used Canadian Fly-In Outposts Lakes
Has anyone used Canadian Fly-In Outposts Lakes. This group starts from Clearwater lake and flys you to Krooked, Entwine, or Upper Frypan Lake. Would like to get an idea of what to expect from someone who has used them or a similar fly in group. The fly in service is seperate so not much about that I can do. But these lakes only have their cabins on them? They make it sound like that. They have an add on hsolist but no savings there starting bid is the same as there normal rates. Price seems to reasonable so I'm not sure what other costs I'm missing. I know licenses and groceries and bait would be extra. But any idea what other surprises I would have to acct for?
