Silver Falls, Manitoba
Family-run fly-in fishing operation with a full-service lodge and four outpost camps in Eastern Manitoba's Atikaki Provincial Wilderness Park.
Dogskin Lake Lodge & Outposts is a fly-in fishing destination located in Eastern Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, operating out of a floatplane base in Silver Falls, Manitoba. The operation includes a full-service American Plan lodge on Dogskin Lake and four outpost camps on separate lakes: Mannifrank, Noname, Black, and South Eagle. The lodge sits on a large island on Dogskin Lake, roughly 180 miles northeast of Winnipeg. The surrounding region was designated as Manitoba's first wilderness park, Atikaki Provincial Wilderness Park, in 1985.
The current owners have run Dogskin Lake Lodge & Outposts for over 25 years. They operate a selective fish management program that allows guests to keep walleye only in the 14- to 17-inch range, with all other fish returned. Outpost camps are located on lakes where the operation holds the exclusive outfitting rights, keeping guest numbers very low on each water body.
The lakes at the lodge and outposts hold walleye and northern pike as the primary target species, with secondary catches including jumbo perch, burbot, whitefish, and sucker. Dogskin Lake itself covers approximately 7,000 acres with 85 miles of shoreline, numerous bays, and sheltered coves. Guests at the main lodge also have access to connected portage lakes. Each year, guests release Manitoba Master Angler-qualifying walleye measuring 28 inches or more and pike measuring 41 inches or more.
Fishing methods include jigging, trolling, and casting. Self-guided guests at the main lodge use 16-foot Lund boats with 15 HP motors equipped with high-back swivel seats. Guided trips use a larger Alaskan Guide boat with a 40 HP motor. Daily shore lunch is included at the main lodge, with fresh walleye prepared lakeside. Outpost guests fish self-guided from 14- to 16-foot boats with motors provided.
The main lodge on Dogskin Lake has a capacity of 48 guests across seven modern private cabins, each with a private bathroom, shower, thermostat-controlled heater, fans, and a three-season screened porch. Some cabins include a living area with furniture. Meals are served in a central dining room and include chef-prepared breakfasts, dinners with homemade soups and baked goods, and daily shore lunch on the water. Daily maid service is provided. The three modern outpost camps on Mannifrank, Noname, and Black lakes feature solar power, hot and cold running water, showers, full kitchens, and three-season porches, sleeping up to eight guests each. The South Eagle outpost is a more basic non-modern camp with two cabins sleeping up to 12, a kitchen, and refrigerator.
Amenities available at one or more of this outfitter's properties.
Guests fly in by floatplane from Bluewater Aviation's base in Silver Falls, Manitoba, approximately 1.5 hours by road northeast of Winnipeg. The flight from Silver Falls to the main lodge on Dogskin Lake takes roughly 45 minutes. There are no roads near the lodge, with the closest community being Bissett, Manitoba, approximately 50 miles away. South Eagle outpost trips depart from a separate floatplane base in Bissett, about two hours north of Silver Falls by road. Guests are advised to arrive in the Silver Falls area the night before their scheduled departure. Private floatplane pilots may also fly directly to the lodge.
