Overview

Garson's Fly-In Outposts is owned and operated by Bob and Andrea Garson, who purchased the two outpost locations in 2002 from the previous owner. Bob has been a bush pilot flying in the area since 1989, previously managing Olivier's Fly-In Camps and serving as chief pilot of HorneAir before acquiring the camps. He is also a past president of NOTO (Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario).

The operation runs two remote self-guided outpost camps in the heart of the Nagagami Forest in Northern Ontario's Algoma Country. One camp sits on Kabinakagamisis Lake (commonly called Little Kaby Lake), located 46 miles northeast of White River, and the other is on Lascelles Lake, located 52 miles northeast of White River. In addition to fishing packages, the outfitter also offers moose hunting at both outpost locations in Wildlife Management Unit 22.

Established: 2002

Best for: Self-guided groups of four to sixteen anglers, including families with children, looking for a remote Northern Ontario fly-in outpost experience.
Best time: The outfitter operates a summer fishing season; specific open and close dates are not publicly listed, but walleye and northern pike are the primary target species throughout the season.

The Fishing

Both lakes support walleye, northern pike, perch, and whitefish. Walleye are described as plentiful, and the lakes are noted for producing larger-than-normal walleye alongside northern pike. Little Kaby Lake covers approximately 3,095 acres and is about 7 miles long, featuring weed beds, rocky shores, and a large island with a shallow rock shoal. Lascelles Lake is a rocky lake roughly 4 miles long with five inlets and one creek outlet. Fishing is self-guided and boat-based; anglers fish at their own pace from the outpost camps.

For walleye, the outfitter recommends brightly coloured jig heads paired with mister twister tails in orange, yellow, white, or chartreuse green, along with live bait such as minnows, worms, and leeches. Seven-day fishing packages are the standard offering, priced per person in Canadian currency based on groups of four or eight.

Accommodations

Little Kaby Lake has a newer cabin with an all-pine interior, three bedrooms, a three-piece bathroom, a full kitchen with propane stove, electric fridge, chest freezer, and a covered deck. A second main cabin on site has two bedrooms, a full kitchen, propane stove, fridge, and electric chest freezer. Two additional smaller sleep cabins each accommodate four guests, bringing the total capacity at Little Kaby to 16 people. The outpost is also equipped with a fish cleaning building. The Lascelles Lake outpost is a single cabin comfortable for up to six people. Both outposts are equipped with 14-foot Starcraft or Lund aluminum boats with 9.9 horsepower motors, provided at a ratio of one boat per two guests, along with gasoline, cooking and eating utensils, and chest freezers. Outposts operate on generator power; guests boil lake water for drinking and cleaning.

Summarized Review Highlights

Based on available reviews, Garson's Fly-In Outposts earns top marks from guests, with at least one reviewer awarding a perfect five out of five stars. The overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with guests describing the location as a peaceful and genuinely remote destination. Owners Bob and Andrea are specifically called out by name as standout hosts who are friendly and attentive, contributing meaningfully to the overall experience. The impression left is that of a small, owner-operated outpost where the personal touch of the hosts plays a significant role in guest satisfaction.

Guests consistently praise the fishing quality, describing it as among the best they have encountered, as well as the remote setting for those seeking to get away from crowds and noise. The hosts' hospitality appears to be a recurring highlight. With only a limited number of reviews to draw from, it is not possible to identify any recurring complaints or concerns, and no negative feedback was present in the available sample. That said, the small review pool means a complete picture of potential drawbacks — such as accommodations, food, equipment, or logistics — cannot be fully assessed here.

Based on the available feedback, Garson's Fly-In Outposts appears best suited for anglers who prioritize quality fishing in a truly remote setting and value a personal, host-driven experience. Guests who appreciate quiet, off-the-grid wilderness trips and are comfortable with fly-in access will likely find this destination a strong fit. The mention of returning annually suggests it resonates particularly well with repeat visitors who value consistency and a connection with the owners.
