Summarized Review Highlights
KaBeeLo Lodge, a family-run fly-in fishing and hunting outfitter based near Ear Falls, Ontario, has been operating since the early 1970s and carries a strong reputation built over decades of repeat visitors. The overwhelming majority of reviews are highly positive, with guests frequently returning year after year — some for 10, 20, 35, or even 40-plus years. The Lohn family (Harald, Ann, Erik, and Alysson) and their staff are consistently cited as a standout strength of the operation, with guests describing them as warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making each trip successful. The lodge offers both base camp stays and fly-out outpost cabin experiences, with turbine seaplanes providing transport to remote lakes. Multiple reviewers note the operation runs smoothly and feels well-organized from the planning stage through departure.
Guests consistently praise the quality of fishing, particularly for walleye and northern pike, with catch counts of 50 to 100 fish per day commonly reported at outpost lakes. Lake trout fishing at certain locations is also highlighted. The outpost cabins receive strong marks for comfort — hot showers, solar-powered refrigeration, bug-proof construction, and well-stocked kitchens are regularly mentioned. Food at the main lodge, including fresh-baked bread and homemade desserts, draws specific praise. Guests taking the outpost option note that cabins are typically stocked with food provisions, though a few reviewers mention the quantities can run light for large or hungry groups, and one guest noted food was not included for an add-on day they had paid for. Tips from multiple reviewers suggest bringing supplemental items like butter, cream, or extra food if needed.
There is one notable negative review describing a moose hunt experience (dated September 2018) in which the guest reported serious concerns: inadequate food provisions, a guide who allegedly engaged in unsafe and potentially illegal practices, and a dispute over a promised refund that was ultimately not honored. This review stands apart from the otherwise uniformly positive feedback and is worth noting for prospective hunters booking guided packages. No other reviewers raise safety or guiding concerns, and the complaints about food quantity in other reviews are minor by comparison. KaBeeLo appears best suited for groups of fishing buddies, couples, and families — including those with young children or less experienced anglers — who want a comfortable, well-supported remote fly-in experience focused primarily on walleye and northern pike fishing. It is also a reasonable choice for first-time fly-in guests given the organized logistics and hands-on staff. Those booking hunting packages, particularly guided hunts, may want to ask detailed questions about guide qualifications and what is included before committing.

Kabeelo outpost trip was wonderful even for us old foggies!
The Kabeelo lodge staff think of everything and the 20th anniversary trip with my wife was the greatest. Outpost cabins were roomy, modern and solar fridge and freezer kept everything cool. They have about everything you need at the cabin for a comfortable week in the bush. Plenty of food, hot showers, roomy, bugproof cabins. Fishing was great with 50-100 fish a day for this 70' year old. Walleyes ran from 14-25" and my wife caught a 34" northern on 6 lb test line. Plane was big and safe and staff went over the top with helping us. They make it easy to plan and it was a wonderful time. Boats and motors were top notch, easy to start, and easy on gas. 1 pull in the am started the Yamaha motor. Even a blind man could catch 50 fish a day. They have comfort figured out for a remote trip. I couldn't recommend them enough. Room tip: Buy bait in Canada....great bait shop in Ear Falls or Kabeelo will get them for you. 2021 Moose Hunting
Our 5 stars go to Harald, Ann, Erik, Jason & Julie at KabeeLo' They took care of Us and made sure we had a great time. A couple of Elk hunters from Colorado booked our 1st ever Moose hunt with KaBeeLo. We harvested a cow Moose and caught over 65 fish not even really trying to catch a fish! Walleyes 16" to 24"- Northerns 18" to 28". Largest were released. We followed the rules & protocol & crossed into Canada with No issues! Upon arriving we received Immediate pre-hunt Information from Harald during supper at the lodge. Then Pilot Erik flew use in and around our remote lake Bertha with More valuable pre hunt information. We really never felt the landing Erik! Your A very good bush pilot; we felt safe. They set us up for 8 days with Plentiful Pork & Beef steaks, bacon, lunch meats, etc. Delicious pre-made ready to heat stews; That was appreciated after a long day on the lake. Unbelievable Beautiful area! After 50 years they Obviously know how to run these type Adventures! Have a Prosperous new year ahead and Congratulations Lohn's. Fabulous FIshing & Service
We have visited several fishing lodges and none compare. Visited with 3 young kids (under age 10). Cabins are modern and well maintained. Remote without being too rustic. We stayed at Seagrave (had just been remodeled). Fishing was a little tougher since the wind rarely subsided, but never ran out of fish to eat! Nice variety knowing you can catch Lake Trout at Seagrave (we didn't catch any). Owners and staff are pleasant and attentive (Harald is a character!). Our first time making a reservation was very easy & comprehensive - owners took plenty of time to walk us through every detail of the trip: tips on what to pack, lists of provided food & quantities. While the food may be light for heavy eaters, we were allowed (no extra charge) to bring additional food. All in all a great family vacation! Date of stay: August 2018.

Horrible experience
Booked a once in a lifetime moose hunt for me and my dad. For the price I paid I was expecting an unforgettable trip. Well... I guess that's what I got! To start... four boxes of potatoes and onions, one hot dog, one bun, one hamburger per person (including our guide) each day. Diet? Oh and now onto our "guide"... who was not a guide. Drove us around in a boat looking for moose, and trying to get us to shoot moose from the boat (illegal). Dropping us off and leaving us alone so he could go fishing and drink all our alcohol back at the cabin, as well as take naps! There actually came a time when we thought he had left us and wasn't going to return. After a shot, guide never helped look for the moose. Long story short... after arriving back at camp and voicing our complaints to the owners we were told that we should receive a refund for all the problems we encountered. However, after returning to the states and contacting the owner again the owner made it sound like all the problems were our fault and I received no refund. Date of stay: September 2018.

Confederation Lake 2018
Two friends and I stayed at the base lodge for 4 days. We fished every morning and afternoon. We caught our limit and then some of lake trout and northern pike. The family that runs it is so accommodating and friendly. We have them all bugs when we left. They really make you feel like family! The other staff is just as nice. The food was always amazing, especially the fresh baked bread and yummy desserts! I would love to go back there and try a fly out trip for a day or two. Date of stay: July 2018.

Great staff and great fishing!
I recently got back from a week of fishing with my dad, father-in-law and cousin and we had a great time! The staff is truly amazing with great customer service! The food was also very good and the outpost we were at was newly remodeled. We caught plenty of fish and had laughs and memories for a lifetime! Date of stay: June 2018.

Best Northern Fishing Ever
KaBeeLo Lodge has the nicest people I have ever met. They act as if you are the only there and their whole job is to see that you are well taken care of and fed. The Northern and Lake Trout fishing on Confederation Lake is beyond excellent. I have landed a 52" Northern and 28" Lakey plus many more smaller ones. I anticipate coming back every year. I have been there every year for the past 10 years. Room tip: This is a fishing lodge and there are cabins. Date of stay: October 2016.

The Best Fly In Fishing in Canada!!
All the staff is courteous and helpful and makes your stay great. Fly In's are pricey but this one is well worth it. We've always caught our limit of fish and had a great time. Their outpost cabins are comfortable and usually the only one on the lake. Room tip: the fly out to an outpost cabin is the best experience! Date of stay: July 2015.

Great fly in location
I have always had a fly in fishing trip on my 'bucket list' so when the chance came to come here with friends I jumped at the opportunity. It was a long drive from Mpls but that came with the deal. They were delightful to work with. Harold (the Dad) was a great guy. I could have spent five days just talking to him and forgot about the fishing. The son and our pilot was pretty decent but not like his dad. The outpost cabins had everything we needed to include showers with really hot water. A nice touch at the end of the day. The beds were comfortable. We were short food which was supplied and I suspect it was mainly because we paid for an extra day but they did not include food for that day. I have no idea what kind of steaks they gave us but they were tender and delicious. The fishing was acceptable for walleye and northern but not great. The lake trout however were awesome and fun to catch as I had never fished for them before. The group I go with do this trip every year and will go back next year also. These trips are fairly expensive so they are not for anyone but well worth it at least once. Bring butter and half and half as they do not provide those. Spend the money for an extra day as it is a long trek up there. Date of stay: September 2015.

The Best Canadian Fly Out Fishing Experience
My family and I have been going to KaBeelo Lodge for over 35 years and the improvement in service, amenities and equipment has been wonderful. The new cabins all now have indoor showers and no longer have leaks that allow mosquitoes and critters to share the space. The boats and motors all work great. The only thing that has remained the same is the fishing. It is still unbelievable! Harald, Ann, and now their son Erik and daughter in law are the best hosts you can imagine. We now have had three generations travelling to KaBeelo and within the next couple years we hope to bring our grandkids and the 4th generation. The wilderness experience of the remote lake, the fishing, the other wildlife, the call of the loons, the vast skies, and if lucky, the Northern Lights, cannot be beat anywhere. If you want to visit the wilderness with some comfort, fly out of KaBeelo Lodge to an outpost lake and you will not be disappointed. We are planning a trip for this August and look forward to another week in paradise. Wetboots. Room tip: Ask Harald which lake best suits your style. Date of stay: August 2014.

Welcoming family runs this operation
We had a delightful time catching walleye and northern on a remote lake. The plane rides to and from the outpost were smooth, as usual. We had 6 inexperienced fishermen plus two experienced and we caught and released over 200 fish. We will return next year. Date of stay: July 2015.

Canada fishing experience
Great service. Stocked food for basics. Great outposts - not luxurious but hot shower, working kitchen, plenty of room, good beds and outstanding fishing. I will be back. Pricing for kids is almost stealing for the memories created. We chose the fly out option. The main lodge is another option if you don't want to cook yourself. Date of stay: July 2015.

We caught lots of Fish!
Fishing was wonderful, but I must say the Lohn family puts everything over the top with first class service. On our first trip I felt like the family and staff were all old friends. We stayed in a cottage before flying out the next morning. Simply delightful and the food was great. Eight of us were in the only cabin on the lake with all the comforts of home. A hot shower and fire in the stove really was a welcomed gift after an afternoon of fishing in the July rain and wind. The night sky was magical. We always caught our limit of fish, and enjoyed fish with every meal. Upon returning to the lodge, our vehicles were parked close by and the staff packed us up while we had breakfast. Our group immediately booked a return trip for next year. Once home, I thought about the experience and gave Harald a call to make a second reservation for the following year. Make the trip, you will not be disappointed, and will have the experience of a lifetime at KaBeeLo. Room tip: All of the rooms we bunked in were great, quiet, and super clean. Always Great!
I recently returned from my 3rd annual trip to Kabeelo Lodge. This place has it all! You can stay and fish right from the lodge, or you can do a fly out trip to one of their many fully stocked remote cabins. The fishing has always been great. Even if you don't manage to catch fish (not going to happen) Kabeelo stocks your cabin with plenty of food to eat. What I love the most about going to Kabeelo is the family atmosphere. It truly is a family business, and as a guest, you are treated like a member of the Lohn's family. I plan of visiting Kabeelo every year for many years to come. Date of stay: August 2014.

Pozner Crew's Trips to KaBeeLo Lodge
Our crew which has ranged form 6 to 8 people has been visiting KaBeeLo Lodge since 1989. It's hard to know where to start with a place and people we've grown to love so much. The accommodations are first class all the way...and they've even spoiled us with hot and cold running water and solar battery powered lighting. The fishing has always been out of this world both in numbers of fish and the size of the fish. Walleyes have always been our species of choice but we've had some great northern fishing as well. Beyond the great accommodations and fabulous fishing it's the people of KaBeeLo (Harald and Ann, and now additionally Erik and Alysson, and the entire KaBeeLo Staff) have made all our trips there very special with their attention to detail ensuring that our every trip is a great and memorable one. The best fishing trip of my life..
Our inaugural trip to Kabeelo this last July was nothing short of awesome. They took care of us from the moment we drove onto the property. The breakfast was outstanding, the people are outstanding, everything was better than advertised. Big thanks to the entire Lohn family, friends and other employees for making our vacation A+. The best Canadian fishing experience around
We've been to KaBeeLo since 1981 and have never ever been disappointed. The quality of fishing is absolutely amazing...bar none! On top of the fishing, there are the wonderful accommodations both at the main lodge and the outposts. Outposts are equipped with everything you could possibly need to ensure that your stay is first class all the way. The Lohn family excels in making you feel welcome and the KaBeeLo crew spoils you from start to finish. Enough said... make your reservations today... you will NOT be disappointed. This year was Perrigo Lake outpost with all of the golden walleyes you can catch. Date of stay: August 2014.

Best Canadian fishing trip ever
We really had a great trip last month. Best Canadian fishing trip we've had. We got lots of walleyes, including about 10 that were 26" or better. Also some really nice northern pike. Cheryl got the biggest walleye of her life (27.5") and I got my biggest northern (40"). Your whole operation was top notch! Thanks again! Tom Wiensch

Perrigo Lake - 80+ walleye first day
The three of us caught 80+ walleye and 20+ northern pike on our first day. Day two was great for a suntan, 90+ walleyes & lots of northern pike with pink jigs. This was topped off by 'hot showers' at the end of the day. Third day we caught 90+ walleye and too many northern pike to count. Perrigo Lake Guest Comments, June 2013.

Kabeelo lodge - superb fly-out fishing
I generally like to go fishing in Canada for the lack of people and to catch and release (except for a few nice shore lunches) and for the beautiful scenery. I recommend the following places that I have been to: Keystone lodge (off red lake road, very nice low cost trip), Northwest outfitters (fly out), Kabeelo lodge (superb at kamungishkamo lake), Abram lake lodge, LAC SEUL Lodge.
