Nakina, Ontario
Fly-in outfitter operating cabins and an outpost camp on a remote 28,000-acre lake near Nakina, Ontario.
Onaman Lake Lodge, also known as Bauer's Onaman Lake Cabins and Outposts, has been operating for over 25 years on Onaman Lake in Zone 7 (Wawa-Geraldton Region) of Ontario. The lodge holds the distinction of operating the only cabins on this 28,000-acre lake, offering two locations: the main camp at Picnic Island and the more remote Onaman North outpost camp, situated five miles to the north.
The lake itself is approximately 6 miles wide and 17 miles long and contains numerous islands, weed lines, and rock shoals. Wildlife including Woodland Caribou, Moose, and Bear can commonly be observed on the water. The operation is self-guided and housekeeping-style, with guests cooking their own meals.
Onaman Lake is known primarily for walleye and northern pike. The lake's extensive weed lines and rock shoals create productive habitat throughout, and the fishery is sometimes referred to locally as the 'fish factory.' The camp enforces a conservation-minded policy: no walleye over 21 inches may be kept, and guests are permitted to retain only one walleye over 18 inches. Both locations — Picnic Island and Onaman North — provide boats and motors so anglers can access the full range of the lake independently.
The main camp at Picnic Island includes multiple housekeeping cabins with 24-hour hydro for lights, Wi-Fi access, fans, battery charging, and CPAP machine support. Cabin One has a built-in bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower, two bedrooms sleeping up to six, plus two futons, a fully stocked kitchen, hot and cold running water, an electric fridge, a propane stove, a propane BBQ, an outdoor cooker for fish fries, and a wood stove. The Onaman North outpost cabin sleeps eight in two bedrooms with bunk beds, has an outdoor shower and outhouse, a screened-in porch, a fully stocked kitchen, propane appliances, a propane BBQ, and limited hydro without a backup generator.
