Pipestone Fly-In Outposts is based near Emo, Ontario, off Highway 71, close to the Fort Frances, Ontario and International Falls, Minnesota border crossing. The operation includes its own licensed air carrier service, flying guests to their chosen outpost via a de Havilland Otter floatplane. The six lakes available are Wabakimi Lake, Kenoji Lake, Oliver Lake, Smoothrock Lake, Coles Lake, and Slender Lake.
Established: 1986
The outpost lakes sit within the Ogoki and Albany River system, which supports consistent walleye, northern pike, lake trout, brook trout, smallmouth bass, sturgeon, and muskie populations. Species availability varies by lake: Kenoji Lake is a catch-and-release-only water known for trophy northern pike, Coles Lake is a catch-and-release brook trout and walleye destination, Oliver Lake offers the chance to target sturgeon, Smoothrock Lake is noted for walleye, walleye, and lake trout, and Wabakimi Lake holds walleye and northern pike across its 17-mile length. Slender Lake, the boat-in option, targets smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, muskie, and lake trout.
Fishing is self-guided and unstructured. The outposter notes that fishing quality is consistent across spring, summer, and fall. Guide and food packages are available upon request for those who prefer additional support.
Each outpost cabin is equipped with a fully equipped kitchen including a refrigerator, freezer, stove, oven, gas grill, deep fryer, and cooking and eating utensils. Cabins feature running water, a shower, flush toilet, solar power and electricity, and communication equipment including satellite phone, two-way radio, or inReach device. Cabin sizes vary by lake, with sleeping capacity ranging from six to ten guests. Meals are self-catered; guests bring their own groceries and beverages, which are flown in with them on arrival. No guided meal service is provided as a standard package.
