Fort Frances, Ontario
Float-plane outfitter operating ten remote outpost camps and one guided lodge in northwestern Ontario, based in Fort Frances.
Rusty Myers Flying Service is a float-plane outfitter and air charter service based in Fort Frances, Ontario, that has been flying guests into remote fishing destinations in northwestern Ontario since 1941. The operation runs ten self-guided fly-in outpost camps on lakes ranging from roughly 1,000 to 26,500 acres, plus Green Island Lodge, a full-service American Plan guided lodge on the 32,000-acre Upper Manitou Lake. A secondary float-plane base operates out of Savant Lake, open from mid-May through mid-October.
All outpost lakes lie between 155 and 240 air miles northeast of the Fort Frances base and are reachable only by float-equipped aircraft. The company operates a fleet that includes Cessna 208 Caravans, a Cessna 185, and three de Havilland Beavers. Moose hunting packages are also offered at select outpost camps.
Established: 1941
The ten outpost lakes hold walleye and northern pike as the primary targets, with low fishing pressure on waters that are inaccessible by road. One outpost lake, Seseganaga, also holds lake trout. Lakes vary considerably in size, giving groups the option of smaller or larger water depending on their preference. Anglers at the outposts fish on a self-guided basis, using the boats and motors provided at camp.
Green Island Lodge on Upper Manitou Lake offers guided fishing for muskie, northern pike, walleye, lake trout, and smallmouth bass, with access to seven additional portage lakes. Conservation (catch-and-release) and sport (catch-and-keep) fishing packages are available across the operation, with limits set by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Outpost cabins are three-bedroom framed structures, fully insulated, and built to sleep up to eight guests. Each cabin includes fully equipped modern kitchen facilities with full-size stoves and ovens, refrigerators with freezers, hot and cold running water with hot showers, solar or propane lighting, screened-in porches, covered decks with gas barbecues, and propane deep fryers. Brennan Lake is a larger outpost with four separate sleeping cabins accommodating up to 24 guests, plus a separate dining cabin with a fireplace. All-inclusive packages include round-trip airfare and pre-stocked food supplies covering full meals; beverages are ordered in advance and waiting at camp on arrival. Green Island Lodge operates on an American Plan with guided service and prepared meals included.
