Ear Falls, Ontario
Family-run outfitter operating 14 fly-in outpost cabins across remote lakes in northwestern Ontario.
Showalter's Fly-In Outposts is a family-operated outfitter based near Ear Falls, Ontario, in the northwestern Ontario region known as Sunset Country. The Showalter family has been providing fly-in fishing and hunting access for over 50 years, with roots going back to the purchase of Northwest Flying Service in the late 1950s. Ralph, Manly, and Edwin Showalter built the operation into one of the more established bush-plane services in the region, flying anglers and hunters across northern Canada.
Today the operation offers 14 fly-in outpost lake destinations across northwestern Ontario. All outposts are self-guided, housekeeping-style camps where groups bring their own food and gear and fish independently. The operation also offers guided and unguided black bear and moose hunting packages in addition to its fishing outposts.
The outpost lakes are stocked with walleye, northern pike, and lake trout. All lakes are accessible only by float plane, keeping fishing pressure low. Guests fish from Lund or Alumarine boats with 8, 9.9, and 15 horsepower four-stroke Yamaha motors, with unlimited fuel included. Fishing is conducted under conservation regulations, and conservation licenses are included in the package. Guests are expected to bring their own fishing gear. Northern pike up to 36 inches and beyond are reported, walleye typically run 10 to 20 inches with occasional larger fish, and lake trout are present in the 15 to 22 inch range.
Each outpost features a modern cabin with knotty pine interiors, hot and cold running water, showers, solar lighting with propane backup, full-size gas ranges, two refrigerators, a freezer, a gas grill, and a fish cooker. Cabins accommodate between 8 and 16 guests maximum. These are housekeeping outposts — meals are not provided, and guests are responsible for bringing their own food and groceries. A 100-pound luggage limit per person, including groceries, applies due to the fly-in access.
