New Osnaburgh, Ontario
Family-run drive-to fishing lodge on Pashkokogan Lake in northwestern Ontario, with access to six lakes on the Albany River system.
North Albany Lodge is a family-run housekeeping lodge situated on Pashkokogan Lake, located along Highway 599 in the New Osnaburgh area of northwestern Ontario. The lodge sits within the Albany River water system, roughly 150 miles north of the main highway corridor, in a remote boreal wilderness area.
The operation consists of a main camp with eight cabins and one outpost cabin on McCrea Lake. Guests bring their own groceries and prepare their own meals in fully equipped housekeeping cabins. Staging towns along the route include Thunder Bay, Ignace, Dryden, and Sioux Lookout, all of which have grocery stores.
Anglers at North Albany Lodge can fish six lakes from camp, targeting primarily walleye and northern pike. Pashkokogan Lake, which offers over 13,000 acres of water, and Medcalf Lake are directly accessible from the dock. Four additional portage lakes — McCrea, Doran, Thelma, and Greenbush — are reached by short portages, with boat caches stored on each. The lodge also has direct access to the Albany River via the Pashkokogan River.
McCrea Lake, where the outpost camp is located, holds walleye, northern pike, and occasional lake trout, with rocky reefs and deep water. Pashkokogan Lake is noted for consistent walleye and northern pike action throughout summer, while Medcalf Lake, a deeper spring-fed lake, is noted especially for walleye in late June and July. Fishing is described as productive throughout the season, not limited to early-season openings.
The main camp has eight housekeeping cabins: five two-bedroom cabins that sleep four to five people (one with a private shower), two larger cabins sleeping six with private showers, and one small cabin sleeping two. All cabins face the water, have no bunk beds, and are fully equipped with electric lights, electric refrigerators, propane stoves with ovens, dishes, cutlery, utensils, oscillating fans, bed linens, and indoor toilets. Cabins are heated by propane, oil, or wood. A communal sauna and shower are available to all guests. The outpost cabin on McCrea Lake has a four-burner propane stove with oven, electric refrigerator, freezer, electric lights, and a wood stove for heat, but uses outdoor plumbing. Guests bring their own groceries; meals are self-catered.
